WofA Colorado January Virtual Mixer

On January 21, WofA Colorado held their virtual January Mixer. The event included a discussion on upcoming events and news. A financial goal setting presentation was also made.

 

WofA Missouri Branch First Official Networking Event

On September 30, 2020, the Women of Asphalt (WofA) Missouri Branch held their first networking event. This event was hosted by Fred Weber, Inc., at their facilities. There were almost 50 people in attendance who took a tour of the Weber North asphalt plant, learned more about the WofA Missouri Branch, and networked. It was a learning experience for all and a beautiful day for a tour! Debbie Novak with Missouri Petroleum and a board member for National Women of Asphalt directed this event with the help of the WofA Missouri Branch Committee members.

Thanks to Fred Weber, Inc., for being such generous and thoughtful hosts. Everyone in attendance had a great time and we cannot wait for the next event!

WofA at Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association’s Annual Social Meeting

From August 12-14, 2020, MAPA hosted their annual Summer Social Meeting in Branson, MO. WofA Board member Debbie Novak, who is also a MAPA member, was in attendance. She met with the MAPA Board to discuss starting a Women of Asphalt local branch. The board was overwhelmingly supportive, and the motion passed unanimously. Debbie Novak (Missouri Petroleum Products) will serve a Chairwoman and Viki Woods (Ingevity) will serve as Vice Chairwoman of the WofA MO Branch. Debbie also hosted a WofA table at the event.

As you can see by the many smiling faces, the event was a success. Thank you MAPA for your support of the WofA!

WofA-CO at Rocky Mountain Asphalt Conference & Equipment Show

Women of Asphalt - Colorado had a presence at the 47th annual Rocky Mountain Asphalt Conference and Equipment show. There were two presentations during the two-day conference. The first was part of the opening general session as a teaser followed by a full session. They also had a booth at the show.  WofA at Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association’s Annual Conference

 

From January 6-8, 2020, MAPA held their Annual Conference in Columbia, MO. Women of Asphalt had a panel discussion featuring Colleen West (Corrective Asphalt Maintenance), Karen Rhoads (Fred Weber) and Lianne Reizer (All American Transportation) moderated by Debbie Novak. Jennifer Griffin (MoDOT) and Monica Pitts (MayeCreate) also presented during the conference and Shishi Chen from the University of Missouri was one of the MAPA scholarship recipients.

Pavement Associations (SAPAS)

On October 24, 2019, the first official Women of Asphalt- Colorado Mixer was held at Honnen Equipment Company in Commerce City. Attendees were treated to heavy equipment demonstrations by Honnen and refreshments sponsored by Martin Marietta Materials. The evening was a great opportunity to network, make new friends, and share experiences. CAPA generously donated money for items including a gift basket for a drawing and a fund to help women entering the industry if they need assistance purchasing necessary work equipment.

CO TRANSPORTATION & CONSTRUCTION GIRL EVENT

WofA CO Transportation Girl EventThe Transportation & Construction Girl Event was held on September 23. There were several hundred attendees and more than 500 at the lunch and presentation.  HAPI HOSTED FREE VIDEO CONFERENCE

On August 15th HAPI hosted a very well-attended free “Introduction to WofA” video conference. Founding members Amy Miller and Natasha Ozybko were on the call and shared their story of forming WofA, current initiatives, and future plans. They also shared ways members can benefit from WofA initiatives and discussed ways to engage. After this discussion, Amy and Natasha stayed on the line and spoke specifically to attendees from Hawaii about the possibility of a local WofA Hawaii branch.

PAIKY HOSTED FIRST WOFA EVENT

On June 7, PAIKY hosted it’s first WofA event. The very successful luncheon included networking, information about WofA, and Federal Highway Administrator Nicole Nason as the featured speaker. Administrator Nason spoke to the challenges our industry faces and the national programs being implemented. CAPA HOSTED WOFA ALL MEMBER LUNCHEON

On May 17, 2019, the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association hosted a luncheon for CAPA Members and agency partners to discuss starting a Colorado chapter of WofA. The response of the women and men who attended was very positive. Numerous potential activities on how to recruit, support, and help in the advancement of women in the industry were discussed. They hope to kick off an official WofA Colorado Chapter once the details at the national level are finalized later this summer. 

 

 SUCCESSFUL SECOND WOFA EVENT HOSTED BY APAI!

On May 16, 2019, Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana hosted 40 women from Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Milestone Contractors generously donated the use of their suite for the event. In addition to networking with other women in the industry and being inspired by the keynote speaker Julie Kratz, who focused on engaging men as allies, the attendees also got the opportunity to have a photo opportunity with three-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, get up close and personal with Indy 500 divers and pit crews with pit and garage passes, and kiss the famous Yard of Bricks. Some even rode around the 2.5 mile track at over 115 mph!

 

 

 CAPA HOSTED WOFA ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION

The Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association held their first Women of Asphalt panel discussion on February 27 at the 46th Annual Rocky Mountain Asphalt Conference & Equipment Show.
The exceptional panel of ladies included Ellen Hilbig (City of Longmont), Amy Strothopolos (WesTest), Brenda Shuler (Aggregate Industries WCR) and Nicki Upright (CDOT).

 

PAPA HOSTED WOFA ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION

On January 29, 2019, at their 59th Annual Conference, Pennsylvania Asphalt Pavement Association hosted a Women of Asphalt Roundtable. The discussion was moderated by Amy Miller, P.E. The event was held at the historic Hotel Hershey.

 

 

 

APAI KICKED-OFF FIRST STATE WOFA GROUP
